The Temple London Services

TEMPLE CHURCH LONDON
TEMPLE CHURCH LONDON

Everyone is welcome to experience worship at the historic Temple Church in London, one of England’s most remarkable surviving medieval round churches. Originally built by the Knights Templar and consecrated in 1185, this extraordinary building continues its centuries-old tradition of Christian worship. Today, services follow the Church of England’s Book of Common Prayer (1662), offering a beautiful and traditional form of worship accompanied by the internationally renowned Temple Church Choir and magnificent organ. Visitors can experience Holy Communion, Choral Mattins and Choral Evensong, with Bible readings, prayers, hymns and outstanding sacred music beneath the arches of this historic church. Whether you regularly attend church or are exploring Christianity for the first time, you are warmly invited to join the congregation.

Sunday worship usually begins at 8.30am with a short, spoken Holy Communion service, followed at 11.15am by either Choral Mattins or Choral Communion, depending on the Sunday. During term time, Choral Evensong is normally held on Wednesdays at 6.00pm, with a shorter Holy Communion service on Thursdays at 1.15pm. There is no need to dress formally, although smart-casual clothing is perfectly suitable for the traditional setting. If you have never attended a church service before, there is no need to worry about knowing the prayers or hymns. You are welcome to sit, listen and enjoy the beautiful music, joining in whenever you feel comfortable. Please note that regular services are not normally held during August and September, and times may vary for special occasions. We recommend checking the church’s current service calendar before travelling.
