Discover the Round Churches of Britain

Exploring 900 Years of History, Heritage and Hidden Stories

Welcome to Round Churches of Britain, a heritage project exploring the fascinating history, unique architecture and hidden stories of Britain’s surviving and lost medieval round churches. Inspired by the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, these remarkable buildings have connections with the Crusades, Knights Templar, Knights Hospitaller and Norman nobility.

Discover England’s four surviving medieval round churches, explore the locations of those lost to history, and uncover the people and events that shaped them. Through historical research, photographs, interactive maps and visitor information, we aim to bring over 900 years of Britain’s remarkable round church heritage to life.
